- Purpose of the Job
The Quality Control Manager ensures that all construction activities meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and safety while fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the organization. The ideal candidate will lead quality control initiatives, ensure regulatory compliance, and drive the successful delivery of high-quality projects. The Quality Control Manager reports to the Director of Field Operations.
- Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Quality Assurance & Compliance - Develop and implement a comprehensive, project-specific Quality Control Plans.
- Ensure full compliance with local, state, and federal building codes, safety regulations, and environmental standards.
- Oversee material testing, site inspections, and third-party audits to maintain superior workmanship.
Project Oversight & Coordination - Monitor on-site construction activities with a focus on structural integrity, materials, and finishes.
- Collaborate with Quality Control Inspector, Project Managers, General Superintendents, and Superintendents to ensure consistent quality across all phases.
- Evaluate subcontractor work to ensure adherence to contract specifications and Breeden's quality standards.
Documentation & Reporting - Maintain meticulous records of inspections, test results, and corrective actions.
- Prepare and present regular quality reports, including Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and root cause analyses, to senior management and stakeholders.
Risk Management & Problem-Solving - Identify and address quality issues early in the construction process to minimize rework and project delays.
- Implement corrective actions to resolve deficiencies and prevent recurrence.
- Collaborate with safety teams to mitigate risks associated with quality and construction safety.
Training & Leadership - Provide ongoing training to construction teams on quality standards and best practices.
- Lead, mentor, and manage the quality control inspector to ensure consistent performance and professional growth.
Client & Stakeholder Interaction - Serve as the primary point of contact for quality-related issues with project teams and executive team members.
- Ensure project deliverables align with client expectations, particularly for high-end multi-family units.
Budget & Cost Control - Implement processes to reduce rework, material waste, and inefficiencies related to quality issues.
- Optimize material usage by ensuring all materials meet the required quality standards and specifications.
- Supervisory Responsibilities
- The Quality Control Manager is responsible for supervising the Quality Control Inspector and all inspections related to quality control.
- Knowledge and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, PE or a related field (Master's preferred).
- Minimum of 5-10 years of experience in construction quality control, with a focus on multi-family projects.
- Strong knowledge of building codes, regulatory standards, and construction methodologies.
- Proficiency in construction management software (e.g., Red Teams, Procore, Bluebeam).
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Certifications such as CQM-C (Construction Quality Management for Contractors) or equivalent (Army Corps of Engineers) are preferred.
- Interaction With Other Employees and The Public
Position requires extensive interaction with general contractors, subcontractors, vendors,
design consultants, local officials, and operations personnel. Employee must have the ability to
both give and receive direction. Employee is a key representative of the company and is
expected to work well with others and exhibit a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
- Physical Demands
The majority of the required work will be performed in the field. At times, the working
conditions may be challenging and involve wide variations in weather and physical environment.
The employee may be exposed to wet, cold, hot, and noisy conditions. While performing the
duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to extensive walking, climbing, sitting, standing,
and lifting up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
- Other
Position requires daily travel to and from project sites. A valid driver's license is
required.
