Introduction

Do you love sports? Are you interested in sharing that love with others? Prince William County Parks and Recreation is looking for instructors that can coach Soccer, Volleyball and/or Basketball at the Sharron Baucom Dale City Recreation Center.
If you want to help kids dream and achieve their dreams, we want you to become one of the instructors who are passionate and want to inspire others! We provide a safe and fun environment that will help children grow and embrace sportsmanship. Proficiency comes next. And with that comes with skills, drills and playing strategies. Classes will be structured by predetermined guidelines.
This position will assist and lead classes of all levels from beginner to advanced. Candidates must be able to work night and weekend hours. Classes may be inside or outside and could be in a variety of weather conditions. This position requires a minimum of 1 year playing or coaching. Employee hours are based upon class enrollments and cannot be guaranteed.
Starting Payrate: $17.99/hr
Typical schedules are Monday through Friday evenings and all day on weekends. Weekday shifts average 2 hours per day and weekend shift average 4 hours per day.
The Department of Parks and Recreation conducts DMV record checks on all licensed employees and criminal background checks on all hires age 18 years and older. Fingerprinting may be required.

NATURE OF WORK
This class is part of the Recreation Job Family. Incumbents performs routine work in connection with various recreation programs or activities. Instructors in this classification teach beginner level sports classes. Example; t-ball, basketball, soccer and sports/outdoors camps. May provide daily upkeep and light maintenance of equipment and facility.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable code of conduct rules; providing customer services. Work is performed in accordance with set procedures and guidelines, and deviation from those guidelines require approval.

1. Carrying out program plans, activities, and lessons. Sets up equipment or materials needed for a class and cleans up after program.

2. Provides excellence in customer service by answering questions and providing information to the public.

3. Maintains and prepares equipment and facility and maintains related records.

4. Enforces program and facility rules; provides emergency care and treatment as required.

5. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

8th grade education and 0-12 months of related experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 18 years old. May require a State/Federal background check.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Positions in this class typically require: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium Work: May require exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, inadequate lighting, work space restrictions, and intense noises.
