Who are we?

Children's Harbor is a non-profit early childcare center that advocates for access to quality early care and education for all children. Established in 1911, we have been shaping the young minds of children in Hampton Roads, helping hundreds of children develop emotionally, socially, and cognitively.

Position Summary

The Center Director is responsible for the total operation of the Center, in accordance with current state licensing regulations, national accreditation criteria, and agency policies.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field is desired. A minimum of an associate degree in early childhood education and at least 5 years of leadership experience are required. Eight or more years of progressive experience in childcare or early childhood education are preferred.

Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

1. Center/Program Quality: Exhibits knowledge of components of developmentally-sound programs while supporting and improving all areas of the center.
2. Health and Safety: Maintains thorough knowledge of safety procedures to ensure a safe and clean indoor and outdoor learning environment.
3. Leadership: Provides guidance and motivation to achieve center and agency goals.
4. Management: Prioritizes time effectively to accomplish necessary and meaningful results through organization and productivity.
5. Decision Making and Problem Solving: Identifies problems, recognizes symptoms, causes, and solutions, and uses available resources to make timely decisions.
6. Communication: Uses effective interpersonal skills when listening to staff, children, and parents, and when delivering personal opinions.
7. Interactions: Builds positive rapport with parents, staff, and children.
8. Financial Management: Ensures all financial reports are timely and accurate, including staff hours, wages, and billing for parents.
9. Marketing: Positions the center in the community to increase awareness, reinforce reputation, and boost enrollment.
