Sentara Health is seeking to hire a qualified individual to join our team as Director, Underwriting.

Location: This position is remote.

Position Details

Position Status: Full-time, Day Shift

Standard Working Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (ET)

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • 5 years management required
  • 7 years health underwriting required

Responsibilities and Expectations

Sentara Health is seeking a Director, Underwriting. This role should have heavy FL or VA underwriting experience. The director will lead and manage personnel and functions associated with underwriting, including Large Group and Small Group (both with various funding methods) and other products as necessary, recognizing and mitigating underwriting risks. Responsibilities include ensuring proper application of all rating systems and formulae, and working with actuaries to maintain and update rating systems. The Director, Underwriter will manage staff for employer group reporting and various other financial reporting requirements, including routine and ad hoc reports. This position may meet occasionally with brokers and key external customers. Knowledge of health insurance and HMO finances, products and business practices.
