Join Our Team as a Construction Inspector I. The City of Virginia Beach Public Works Department is seeking dedicated individuals to become part of our team. Duties to include:
• Perform closed circuit television (CCTV) inspections of the City's stormwater drainage systems to support MS-4 permit requirements and post construction inspections.
• Perform CCTV inspections according to NASSCO standards.
• Inspect drainage systems according to Federal, State, and Local law and regulation.
• Perform post construction and maintenance inspections of drainage systems according to State and Local drainage system design standards and specifications, and general industry standards.
• Perform CCTV investigative inspections of drainage systems to support staff addressing citizen requests, environmental concerns, or other drainage related issues.
• Plan and schedule inspections according to a developed inspection program cycle.
• Research, track, and report inspection activities and results in a resource management system such as Hansen or Cartegraph.
• Perform other duties requiring skills, knowledge and physical requirements as demanded by those duties described or less.
• Individual assignments will be determined by the supervisor based on department needs
• Physical ability to launch camera equipment, lift manhole covers, and perform other heavy lifting up to 100 lbs.
**This position is ALPHA 1 and is required to work in excess of their normally scheduled days/hours during all inclement weather (flooding, hurricanes & snow), and/or in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies **

Minimum Requirements: High School, or GED, plus two (2) years of progressive experience in fields providing the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Must have, or obtain, a current and valid Virginia or North Carolina driver's license in accordance with Virginia or North Carolina DMV driver's license eligibility requirements.
Special Requirements: All employees may be expected to work hours in excess of their normally scheduled hours in response to short-term department needs and/or City-wide emergencies.

Preferences:
• Possess valid Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) certification specific to Responsible Land Disturber, Erosion and Sediment Control Inspector, and/or a Stormwater Inspector.
• Possess NASSCO certification - PACP, MACP, and LACP.
• Experience conducting CCTV inspections, defect coding, and data transfer.
• Experience with computer mapping
• Experience working with a Work Management Database System (e.g. Cartegraph).
• Experience interpreting civil construction drawings and plans.
• Familiar with construction and repair of drainage systems.
• Familiar with drainage system maintenance
• Familiar with stormwater management facilities (SWMF) used in Virginia.
• Familiar with VDOT and City Drainage Structure standards and specifications.
• Familiar with occupational hazards and safety precautions, particularly excavation and work zone safety practices.
• Proficient with Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word and Excel
