Job Title: Pipefitter Job Description

As a Pipefitter, you will be responsible for tasks such as ripping out, repairing, targeting, laying out, fabricating, installing, and testing marine piping systems onboard ships in various stages of repair and modernization. You will work on the repair and replacement of ships' piping systems including auxiliary salt water, potable water, hydraulic, compressed air, fuel oil, and lube oil, following work item specifications, NAVSEA/Military standards, and marine blueprints. Your role will also include using various shop equipment such as table saws, pipe threading machines, bending machines, drill presses, and brazing equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Rip out, repair, and install marine piping systems onboard ships.

  • Fabricate piping systems using shop equipment like table saws, pipe threading machines, and bending machines.

  • Repair and replace various ship piping systems, including auxiliary salt water and hydraulic systems.

  • Perform strain-free installations of pumps and miscellaneous ship equipment.

  • Conduct blanking, pressure testing of tanks, and unblanking procedures.

  • Install and repair foundations for machinery and principal structures/components of ship's armament.

  • Test shipboard machinery pier side or during sea trials to ensure satisfactory operation.

  • Read, understand, and execute work based on technical documents, blueprints, and specifications.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in pipe fitting and brazing.

  • Working knowledge of piping systems on board marine vessels.

  • Thorough knowledge of equipment, work processes, and techniques used in measuring, fitting, and welding pipe.

  • Ability to read and interpret pipe drawings and calculate pipe requirements using standard pipe formulas.

  • Capability to read, comprehend, and interpret blueprints.

  • Certification requirements for manual torch brazing.

  • Knowledge of and ability to utilize proper tools to perform job assignments.

  • Reliability with a strong work ethic.

  • Ability to estimate material needs for upcoming work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Must have basic hand tools applicable to your trade with a bag or tote.

  • Proficient in reading, writing, and comprehending instructions in English.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Chesapeake, VA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $40.00/hr.
