Job Title: Machinist and Programmer Job Description
Operate both manual and CNC equipment, including programming and set-up, to produce precision metal parts, instruments, and tools. Review drawings, instructions, blueprints, or samples to ensure accurateproduction and take precise measurements for cutting or shaping. Ensure quality assurance of manufactured parts.
Responsibilities
Review samples, drawings, or instructions to understand specifications of output.
Plan the sequence of necessary actions for the completion of a job.
Take measurements and mark material for cutting or shaping.
Select appropriate machines (e.g. lathes) and position or load material for a job.
Run CNC machines to produce tools and parts to dimensional/tolerance requirements.
Monitor machine while working to adjust the feed, maintain temperature, and identify issues.
Check output to ensure consistency with specifications and discard defects.
Participate in brainstorming and problem-solving with Engineering and Production personnel.
Perform preventive and basic maintenance to equipment.
Recommend new technologies for continuous improvement.
Work with composites and other materials.
Comply with work instructions for all machining operations.
Comply with safety rules and regulations during the course of duties.
Essential Skills

G-code

Composite machining
Working knowledge of CADCAM software
Knowledge and experience using G-Code Programming
Previous CNC machining experience
Three axis milling
Understanding of material properties and characteristics
Working knowledge of various measuring gauges: micrometers, pin gauges, dial indicator, screw pitch gauge, height gauge, and comparator stand/gauge
Ability to do trigonometry and general math computations
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and manuals
Ability to interact effectively with customers, peers, management, manufacturing personnel, and both technical and non-technical people
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Advanced Computer Knowledge recommended
Composite machining preferred
BobCAD/Esprit CNC programming
Okuma Control experience
Five axis lathe experience preferred
Work Environment
This work is typically performed while standing for long periods in a machine shop or manufacturing environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, VA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $27.00 - $45.00/hr.
