The Virginia Beach Police Department is made up of four precincts, each covering a portion of the City. Precinct Desk Officers (PD - Os) serve as the initial contact for the public within each of the precincts. They perform administrative, security, and computerized tasks in the disposition of precinct functions; maintain precinct warrants, found/recovered property logs to determine current disposition; retrieve information from local, state and national computer files to determine suspect's prior criminal record or to determine if there are outstanding warrants; and enter summons data and booking information to update existing computer system data files. Some assignments may include processing prisoners and their property incidental to arrest. Interaction may be required with individuals who are unclean, HIV positive, intoxicated and/or use vulgar language.
